Project Overview
Positive Altitude Drones was commissioned to support a major river restoration initiative on a 34,000-acre sporting estate in the Isle of Lewis. The project aimed to provide detailed, actionable insights for river management and restoration planning across the estate’s main river and watershed.
Scope of Work
- LIDAR Survey: Conducted a high-precision LIDAR survey of the main river and its watershed, capturing detailed topography and landscape features.
- 3D Orthomosaic Creation: Produced a comprehensive 3D orthomosaic model, enabling the client to virtually fly along the entire river and examine the site from every angle.
Project Outcomes
- Successfully surveyed the entire 34,000-acre estate with detailed aerial data.
- Delivered outputs that have directly supported over 40 river restoration interventions, improving habitat quality, reducing erosion, and informing long-term river management.
- Provided the client with a versatile 3D visualisation tool for planning, monitoring, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Benefits
- Precision & Efficiency: High-resolution LIDAR data enabled accurate mapping of complex river systems.
- Decision Support: The 3D orthomosaic allowed stakeholders to plan restoration interventions with confidence.
- Environmental Impact: Supported sustainable river management practices across a vast and challenging landscape.
Positive Altitude Drones continues to support environmental projects like this, delivering cutting-edge aerial surveys and visualisation tools that help clients restore and protect natural habitats across the UK.
