LIDAR Infrastructure Assessment

Location:

River Wye, UK

Project Type

Environmental Survey | Infrastructure Monitoring | LIDAR Drone Mapping

Project Overview

Positive Altitude Drones was commissioned to conduct a high-resolution LIDAR survey along a stretch of the River Wye. The project aimed to assess riverine infrastructure, surrounding riparian zones, and areas vulnerable to erosion and flood risk.

Scope of Work

  • LIDAR Data Capture: Deployed RTK-enabled LIDAR drones to survey riverbanks, tree canopy, and built structures.
  • 3D Point Cloud Modelling: Generated centimetre-accurate models for detailed topographical analysis.

Project Outcomes

  • Delivered high-resolution 3D datasets providing planners, ecologists, and conservation teams with precise insights.
  • Identified key areas of erosion and potential flood risk for targeted intervention.
  • Produced outputs that support both infrastructure management and ecological conservation planning.

Key Benefits

  • Accuracy: Centimetre-level precision ensured reliable mapping of sensitive riverine features.
  • Decision Support: Detailed models gave stakeholders a clear basis for planning interventions.
  • Conservation Value: Supported sustainable river and floodplain management in a dynamic and delicate environment.

Positive Altitude Drones continues to deliver advanced LIDAR drone surveys that provide actionable insights for infrastructure, conservation, and flood risk management projects across the UK.
